How we begin
Inquiry before intervention
We reveal yours. We don’t impose ours.
There is no Curio look. Before we draw anything, we learn how you live and what the place is asking for.
A space should feel inevitable in its setting, not imported into it.
- We ask how your days actually run: mornings, meals, work, rest, the dog.
- We read the place: its light, its seasons, the land and the architecture already there.
- We look closely at what you own and love, and design around it.
- We write down what we heard before we start designing, so you know you were listened to.

Materials with a story
Our material library holds the research behind every surface we specify: how it is made, where it comes from, what it means for the air in your home, and the history it carries. You see that story when you approve a selection.

| How it is made | Chips of marble, stone or glass set in a cement or resin base, then ground and polished smooth. | Crushed quartz bound with polymer resin and pigment, pressed into slabs in a factory. |
| Health and safety | A cement base is mineral and stable once cured, and the chips are often reclaimed stone or recycled glass. | Cutting it releases fine silica dust, which has been linked to serious lung disease in the people who fabricate it. |
| Over a lifetime | It can be reground and refinished in place, and it lasts for generations. | Hard-wearing, but it cannot be refinished, and the resin makes it hard to recycle. |
| Where it comes from | Venetian workers developed it centuries ago to put marble offcuts to use. | A late twentieth-century invention, made as a low-maintenance stand-in for natural stone. |
The price difference is often small, and the story helps you decide whether it’s worth paying.
A vintage and antique network
We work with a close circle of vintage and antique dealers, focused on modern and mid-century pieces rather than farmhouse. An older piece that was made well has already proven it lasts, stays out of a landfill, and gives a room the feeling that it grew over time.
