Specification is a moral choice. Every finish, fixture, and surface we draw into a project carries a story: where it came from, what it cost the earth, how long it will last, and what happens to it next. We ask those questions before we commit. We design in conversation with the landscape we work in (the light, the seasons, the particular character of the Hudson Valley) so a home gives back more to its ecosystem than it takes.
Why this is foundational
A home is an ecosystem of living beings, rhythms, memories, and matter, coexisting on behalf of one another. Materials carry that story before they ever reach your home, and they carry it long after.

Three commitments, every project.
Origin, lifecycle, and ecological impact: the three lenses every specification passes through. Open each to see how.
Every material has a story before it reaches your home. We ask where it was harvested, how it was processed, who made it, how far it traveled. The answers shape what we specify. Specification is a vote.
A home is not a one-time decision. It accrues. We choose for durability, repairability, and what becomes of a piece when its first life is done. Heirloom is the upper bound. Compostable is the lower bound. Landfill is the line we don't cross.
Most conversations about a home's footprint stop at energy bills. We pay equal attention to the carbon locked into what's already there (the embodied story of every finish, fixture, and surface) and to whether the project gives back more to its ecosystem than it takes.
How we source
Our sourcing standard
Everything we bring into your home is chosen with three things in mind: the people who live with it, the place it lives in, and the planet it comes from.
People
Makers who are paid fairly and work safely, pieces that are healthy to live with, and finishes chosen for the way your household actually uses a room.
Place
Pieces that belong to your home and its character, with vintage and antique finds and local craft wherever they fit, so the result feels grown rather than bought in one go.
Planet
Recognized certifications where they exist, durable construction that lasts decades rather than seasons, and fewer, better things over fast furniture.
Every vendor, scored
Before a maker earns a place in our sources, we score them on what they publish and what can be verified. When we show you a piece, we tell you where it ranks, so you decide with the whole picture in front of you.
Our bar. A vendor who scores below it doesn’t make it into your home, even when they’re cheaper or can ship sooner.

We don’t source below this standard. If something you love doesn’t meet it, we’ll tell you why and find you an alternative that does.
