Berkshire Cottage

Cottages have a particular design problem: every decision is load-bearing. There is no room for a piece that doesn't earn its place, no wall that can absorb an afterthought, no corner that gets to be unresolved. This Berkshire cottage came to us with charm already intact — the structure was right, the light was right, the setting was right. What it needed was a designer willing to resist the urge to fill it. We edited more than we added. The result is a home that feels complete without feeling crowded, which is the hardest thing to pull off in a small space.
