Curio Studio Interiors serves clients across the Northeast — from the Hudson Valley and Catskills in New York to the Berkshires and Western Massachusetts, with regular work in the Capital Region, Saratoga Springs, the Adirondacks around Lake Placid, and broader New England. The studio is in Kerhonkson, NY, inside the Hudson Valley.
The Northeast is not eight disconnected places. It is one regional ecology with eight particular dialects — the river light of the Hudson Valley, the harder winter blue of the High Peaks, the layered Gilded Age grammar of the Berkshires, the brownstone proportions of Troy. The houses share bones across the state lines. The trade ecology overlaps. The light moves differently in every county, and the homes that age well are the ones designed for the specificity of where they actually sit.
We treat the region as a region. Our masons, millworkers, and plaster crews work across the Catskills and into the Berkshires. Our drawings carry the same rigor into a Federal in Hudson and a cottage in Lenox and a contemporary outside Keene Valley. The work is rooted in materiality, in the particular light of a particular house on a particular ridge, and in the slow relationship of design that earns its longevity rather than performing it.
That regional rigor is not abstract. The U.S. Census American Community Survey (2023 5-year estimates, data.census.gov) places the median year of housing construction across the Northeast at roughly 1968 — meaningfully older than the U.S. median of 1980, and substantially older once you narrow to the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires, Saratoga County, and the older river towns we work in, where pre-1940 stock is the norm rather than the exception. Older houses ask for older craftsmanship and slower drawings. The work is built for that.

Our home territory. The studio sits in Kerhonkson, inside Ulster County, and the work here is built on local trade relationships and a particular attention to the river light. Federal, Dutch colonial, Italianate, contemporary — across six counties, on the houses that ask for the long view.

A short drive into the mountains from the studio. The Catskills have a particular light and a difficult housing stock — A-frames, farmhouses, mid-century cabins — and the homes that age well respond to that specificity rather than to a regional mood board.

Albany, Troy, Schenectady — designed for real life.
Albany, Troy, Schenectady, and the suburbs around them. Roughly ninety minutes north of the studio — close enough to be on site for the moments that matter, far enough to be its own conversation. Brownstones, Federals, mid-century suburbs, all asked to do more than they were originally designed for.

Historic Victorian bones and a particular celebratory energy. Saratoga is its own conversation inside the broader Capital-Saratoga region — grander, older, and more performance-aware than its neighbors. The work is to honor that without being imprisoned by it.

The High Peaks and the lakes around them. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Keene, Keene Valley — the Adirondack work runs on a mountain calendar and asks for a quieter reading of the Great Camp tradition than the log-cabin version that dominates the region.

Savannah grew up here. Across the state line — Great Barrington, Stockbridge, Lenox, Williamstown — the Berkshires hold layered architecture (Gilded Age cottages, New England colonials, Federal, contemporary) and a second-home conversation we design as one continuous cross-border relationship.
