A designer works with what it could be, alongside architects and contractors. Curio does both kinds of work: full renovations at one end, furnishing a home whose structure already works at the other. Start with the honest version of your project, and we'll tell you which it is.

Full Service is fully managed: construction coordination, finishes, furnishings, procurement, and installation, whether the home needs a renovation or only furnishing. Spec Book is the complete design plan, drawn and specified for your contractor to build from, and you handle the ordering.

They solve different problems. A design-build firm carries construction and design under one roof, which is efficient, and it tends to design what it already knows how to build. An independent designer answers to the home and to you, not to the build schedule. We work alongside architects and contractors constantly; the strongest projects keep design intent and construction in honest conversation. If you already trust a design-build firm's work, hire them. If you want an advocate, hire a designer.

Yes. New-construction interiors are some of our deepest work, because we engage at design development (window placement, lighting plans, materials) and stay through the punch list. New builds usually run twelve to twenty-four months and reward early coordination between architect, builder, and designer. Yes. Single-room engagements (design direction, a paint palette and furniture plan, a kitchen finish package) are real work, and a good way to begin a relationship with a studio. Many of our full-home clients started with one room. Full Service and Spec Book both work at room scale. Begin where you are.

Primarily residential. That's the studio's center of gravity, and we're honest about it. We have taken on select commercial and boutique hospitality work where the project asks for the same care a home does; our portfolio includes a small hospitality property. Full Service projects usually unfold over 6–12 months from first conversation to install, and a furnishings-only project runs shorter, usually 4–8 months. Spec Book deliverables ship in 6–10 weeks.

We have a vetted network of regional architects, contractors, and craftspeople we collaborate with often. If you have your own team, we work alongside them. The goal is for the project to feel coordinated, not territorial.

Savannah Dodge is the founder and principal designer, with a BFA in Interior Design from the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University and over a decade of residential work across the Hudson Valley and New England.

As involved as you want to be. With Full Service we run everything, and with Spec Book we draw the plan your contractor builds from. Some clients want a weekly conversation, others want to hand us the keys and come back for the reveal. Either is fine. The cadence gets set early, in writing, and it holds.

Sustainable interior design asks three questions of every material: where it came from, how long it will last, and what it costs the earth. At Curio we call those pillars Origin, Lifecycle, and Impact. Origin traces harvesting, processing, and distance traveled. Lifecycle chooses for durability and repairability: heirloom is the upper bound, landfill is the line we don't cross. Impact weighs embodied carbon, not just energy bills. Specification is a vote, and we treat it that way.

Yes, where the home calls for it. Reuse sits inside how we think about lifecycle: a well-made older piece has already proven its durability, and its embodied carbon is already spent. We bring vintage and antique pieces into projects alongside new work, and we'd rather restore something worth keeping than replace it with a lookalike. Provenance is part of the design conversation, not an afterthought.

Often. Many of our Hudson Valley projects are weekend houses or short-term rentals where presence matters more than scale. We treat them with the same care as primary residences.

Our work is site-specific, so we travel rather than design from a screen. A home has to be walked: the light at seven in the morning, the way the front hall takes a January boot. We work on site across the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires, and our broader regions, and for farther projects the travel is planned and itemized in the written proposal. We don't offer a virtual-only design service.
